2000-04-26 I have been told by a JD dealer that 2/3 of list is dealer cost, with some small variations on price leaders like the 790 and some utility tractors (5105, 5205). NH pricing is evidently more complex, running around 80% of list after holdbacks are considered. Can anyone substantiate these allegations?Does anyone know what is happening at Ritchie Tractor (Knoxville)? Jim

Hi Jim.
I sell JD and while I'm not at liberty to publicly announce dealer cost, I can tell you that dealer cost is a LOT more than 2/3 of MSRP.
You are correct about about the price leader models. Dealer cost is an even higher percentage of MSRP on these models.

Jim, I can't confirm or deny cost % but the dealer I bought from said he tries to make $500.00 per tractor he sells. I assumed he meant net profit. I have no idea what his ovverhead per unit is. I do know that the price I paid for a JD 4300 was within $100-$200 of a L3010 and a TC29D and I don't remember which was the cheapest. I put the numbers into a spreadsheet and tracked it because when I started looking I had no prejudices and was going to buy the cheapest. Pricewise there was not much difference. If JD dealers cost is at 67% and NH dealers cost is at 80%, the JD dealers are buying them cheaper around here. ....
